Bring Literature Home: Little Libraries

Partner organizations St. Louis Arts Chamber, St. Louis Association of Community Organizations and residents of the seven neighborhoods along the Hodiamont Tracks are bringing literature home with 13 neighborhood Little Libraries. The Little Library program provides free books to all ages. Take one, leave one! Our project is part of the Read in Color Program, a national inititiative of the Little Free Libraries.

See our story in Ladue News

The Libraries were built by the community volunteers and will be installed at the blue marker locations shown on the map. The green markers denote the locations of the new neighborhood parks that back the soon to be installed Great Rivers Greenway along the Hodiamont Tracks.

Can’t join us:

Build day brought out more than 40 volunteers and painting day brought out the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts from Bethleham Lutheran Church. Volunteers ranged from under 10 year olds to over 80 year olds.

All are welcome. We will find a place to include YOU!

Long term residents of the neighborhoods joined in to help build the Little Libraries. Spotlight was on 83 year old Delores McCrea. Ms. McCrea wanted to participate in the renaissance of the neighborhood through the Little Libraries project. While man handling the wood and drills was left to the younger generation, Ms McCrea brought her joyful spririt and joined in the festivities by helping with organization and registration. Thank you Delores! You made everyone’s day.

We still need help painting the Libraries, installing them (post hole digging skills helpful!) and donations to fill the Libraries.

Thank you Boy Scouts Troop 26 and Cub Pack 3026 and the little lady of Bethlehem Lutheran Church! Also to Girl Scout Troops #869,911, 1100. and 2034!

It was a great grand opening. Thank you to all who attended! See the news coverage.
