How initiatives help neighborhoods
Our mission is to revitalize St. Louis neighborhoods by integrating arts and culture to enhance the quality of life as we empower resident ownership of change through creative, collaborative development.
That’s why the St. Louis Arts Chamber of Commerce, through our community-focused initiative, Gateway Creative Placemakers, is dedicated to weaving the arts into the economic and social fabric of our city. Art is essential for a vibrant community. We envision a city where the skillful use of creativity addresses neighborhood needs and supports St. Louis’s rich cultural tapestry.

The Archer Alexander Memorial is bringing together arts and history to commemorate the last fugitive slave, Archer Alexander. Beckoning to all of the souls buried in the mass grave behind him, he encourages all to rise up from the grave, inspired by the prophecy in Isaiah 65: 21-23.
"They will build houses and dwell in them;
they will plant vineyards and eat their fruit.
22 No longer will they build houses and others live in them,
or plant and others eat.
For as the days of a tree,
so will be the days of my people;
my chosen ones will long enjoy
the work of their hands.
23 They will not labor in vain,
nor will they bear children doomed to misfortune;
for they will be a people blessed by the Lord,
they and their descendants with them."
22 Partnering Neighborhoods
Creative Placemaking unites 22 partnering neighborhoods, and hopefully even more in the future. Creative Placemaking empowers residents, local leaders, and artists to address community challenges while preserving each area’s unique cultural identity.
1,442 Trees and Flora Planted
From garden beds to shaded walkways, every seedling and tree planted supports creating thriving spaces. These green additions promote sustainability, improve air quality, and create a welcoming environment for residents and visitors.
